Asbestos References:

- Section on the use of papermakers' felts for asbestos cement manufacture.  It contained about 20% asbestos fiber. The size of these fibers are described. The process of working with the asbestos is also described.

-The use of asbestos fiber for dryer felt is described.  Its use began in the 1920s. Specifically, it says, "In the 1920's asbestos fiber came into use and it is still in use in many dryer felt designs.  (new paragraph) Between the 1920s and the late 1940s many different materials and combinations of materials were tried, for example, hemp, limen, and monel wire.  But none was successful in replacing the traditional cotton, asbestos and wool fibers.  Around 1949 synthetic fibers such as Dacron and nylon were introduced. Synthetics can be used 100 per cent or in combination with cotton or wool to give improved performance."

- Asbestos is listed as one of the materials for canvas dryer felts. It says, "Asbestos is used in combination only."

- Asbestos felt is also mentioned in the section on application.
