"In the mechanical field, it is interesting to note that gears made from Bakelite Laminated materials are used on nearly all American automobiles and trucks. Incorporated with asbestos and suitably molded, Bakelite resinoid provides valve discs for the radiators in our homes, while from Bakelite-graphite mixes are molded dashpots which are ideally suited to the needs of self-lubrication."
There is a table entitled "Bakelite Products: Their Properties and Characteristics" which has a column of information on their Molded products with Asbestos filler. Properties listed include specific gravity, specific volume, tensile strength, impact strength, modulus of elasticity, modulus of rupture, electrical resistivity, breakdown voltage, power factor, dielectric constant, thermal conductivity, specific heat, effects of heat, effects of light, effects of aging, effects of water, water absorption of, effects of: acids, alkalis, alcohols, ketones, esters, mineral solvents, mineral oils, animal and vegetable oils.
The asbestos filler molded products are described as "mechanically very resistant to water, cold or hot," and "Withstands 475 F for short periods."
Condition: Good. Uneven edge. Removed from a large book of catalogs.
