Section on Stuffing Boxes (in chapter about pumps) describes packing as being made out of asbestos... "A good grade of braided asbestos impregnated with graphite is most commonly used, especially for water service. This often comes in a continuous coil which is cut into proper lengths for making rings."
Section on Motors describes Class B insulation as being made of mica, asbestos, fiber-glass and other inorganics.
