Home Owner's Catalogs

Copyright date is 1945; Actual publication date may be 1948, as some of the advertisements, including the Crane section, have that date on it.

Hardcover, 11" x 8.5" and almost 1" thick

"Designed to serve those who are planning their own homes as a guide, a reference work and a valuable, practical aid in the selection of building materials, equipment, appliances, and furnishings best suited to meet their needs and desires."

There are some Crane products featured, and of them, a couple describe them as containing asbestos.  Specifically, the Crane Sixteen Boiler description says, "The Crane Sixteen also has thick air cell asbestos insulation on front, top, side and rear, which is firmly attached to the jacket. This insulation prevents heat from escaping - the jacket is never too warm to touch."

The Crane Line Basmar "25" Gas-Fired Boiler description also mentions asbestos.. It says, "The heavy metal jacket is attractively finished in baked-on green enamel, and is fully insulated with asbestos which surrounds the boiler." After that sentence, there is an asterisk, which says, "Bears American Gas Association Seal of Approval."

This large hardcover book is a collection of catalogs designed for home planners. Some of the products featured are laundry equipment, boilers, glass, roofing, sinks, dishwashers, valves, windows, wiring, ventilators, etc. The products featured in this catalog are from many different companies, including Crane, General Electric, Lumite, Chase, Bell Telephone System, Morrison Steal Products, Honeywell, Libbey Owens Ford Glass Company, Hunter Douglas Corporation, Hotpoint, Moncrief, Thatcher Furnace Company, and more.
