ASBESTOS is mentioned on at least a couple of pages.
In a section about the armatures in the 300 kw Generator, U.S.S. New York, it says "There are 90 slots insulated with asbestos paper and linen, each slot carrying two coils of each winding (four in all)."
In the chapter, Apparatus for Motor Control Systems, there is one page [SEE PIC] that has pictures showing Edgewise Wound Resistance Unit and Type FM Resistance Units, General Electric Company.
Asbestos is pictured and described for each unit. For the Edgewise Wound Resistance it says, "Resistance ribbon is wound on edge on a supporting tube from which it is insulated, ordinarily by asbestos." For the FM Resistance it says, "It consists of an asbestos tube supported at the ends by porcelain bushings."
CONDITION: Fair to Good. Front and back hinges have cracking, however binding is still good/functional. Book slanted front to back. Stain along top and side edges of some of the pages (doesn't effect text). Foxing to front endpapers. Some remains (tape, partial book plate) from it probably being a library book. Also, first blank pages are clipped. Clothe torn a bit at the top of the spine and corners are bumped/worn. Removable post-it pads have been used to mark the pages that mention asbestos.
