Asbestos References
- Section on Boiler Casings says, "Metal encased asbestos gaskets are used at the joints."
- Chapter on Piping, Fittings, and Appliances discusses the use of asbestos gaskets and asbestos packings for Bulkhead Flanges.
Other Interesting Information:
- There is a diagram of a boiler that has parts labeled, including "insulating block." Although this book does not mention what insulating block is made out of, we currently have another reference that says it is "composed of uncalcined diatomaceous earth mixed with asbestos fiber." This reference is currently available here, but if that book sells out, you may contact us and we will find a book with that information in it, if possible.
- The pumps chapter has the following diagrams: Aldrich Groff variable capacity feed pump, Worthington variable capacity feed pump, Davidson valve gear, Warren Eclipse valve gear, Worthington simplex valve gear.
- "The two constant-pressure pump governors which are most commonly used in the Navy are the Leslie and the Atlas governors."
